What you need before you start
Two things: the Engine Sim APK file itself, which you can grab from the official download page, and an XAPK installer app from the Play Store. The file is about 29 MB, and you want roughly 120 MB free during install for the unpacked data. That is the whole shopping list.
Step 1: Download the XAPK
Open the download page on your phone, wait for the short warm-up timer, and tap the red download button. The file is called enginesim.xapk. Let it finish completely; a half-downloaded XAPK is the number one cause of parse errors later.
Step 2: Get an XAPK installer
XAPK is a bundle format, a regular APK plus its data files in one package. Android cannot open it natively, so install any well-rated XAPK installer from the Play Store. They are free and take under a minute to set up.
Step 3: Run the installer
Open the XAPK installer and let it scan. It should find enginesim.xapk in your Download folder automatically. If it does not, move the file there with your file manager and rescan. Tap the file, tap install, and when Android asks, allow the installer app to install other apps.
Step 4: First launch
Open the app and grant the storage permission it requests; the app needs it to read its own sound data. Pick an engine, any engine, and tap the throttle. If you hear glorious noise, you are done. If you hear nothing, the no-sound fix guide sorts it in about two minutes.
What can go wrong
Play Protect may show a warning because the file did not come from the Play Store. That is normal for sideloaded apps; tap install anyway on the file from this site, which is scanned before every publish. An "app not installed" error almost always means an older copy of the app is conflicting, so remove the old one first. More fixes live in the install error guide.
